It doesn't matter if your planning a small get-together or a banging bash; drinks and celebrations go hand in hand. There are as many types of beverages as there are types of parties, so use our tips & recipes as a guide when picking your drinks for your next party.

Definition of a drink: A drink, or beverage, is a liquid which is specifically prepared for human consumption. In addition to filling a basic human need, beverages form part of the culture of human society.

What is a Mixed Drink?
A Mixed Drink is a beverage in which two or more ingredients are mixed.
Some mixed drinks are alcoholic beverages that contain liquor or some
other alcoholic ingredient; other mixed drinks are alcohol-free.

Cocktail   • Highball   • Punch   • Sour   • Mixed Drink Shooters
Julep, sweet drink of liquor & aromatics, mint   • Layered Drink

Pousse-café: A pousse-café is a style of layered drink prepared by
gently adding each ingredient from densest to least dense in order to
create colored stripes when the drink is viewed from the side.

Flip, an alcoholic mixed drink incorporating beaten egg, especially
one made with liquor or wine, sugar, and egg, topped with powdered
nutmeg and served hot or cold. Also used to describe a sailor's drink
made from beer mixed with rum or brandy, sweetened and served hot.

What is a Cocktail?
A cocktail is a mixed drink typically made with a distilled beverage
(such as gin, vodka, whiskey, tequila, or rum) that is mixed with other
ingredients. If beer is one of the ingredients, the drink is called a beer
cocktail.  List-of-Cocktails

What is a Beer Cocktail?
A beer cocktail is a cocktail that is made by mixing beer with a distilled
beverage. In this type of cocktail, the primary ingredient is beer. A
mixture of beer with a beverage that does not contain distilled alcohol is
called a shandy.  List-of-beer-Cocktails

What is a Wine Cocktail?
A wine cocktail is a mixed drink, similar to a true cocktail. It is made predominantly with wine (including Champagne and Prosecco), into which distilled alcohol or other drink mixer is combined.

The distinction between a wine cocktail & a cocktail with wine is the relative amounts of the various alcohols. In a wine cocktail, the wine product is the primary alcohol by volume compared to the distilled alcohol or mixer.  List-of-Wine-Cocktails

Flaming Beverages
include cocktails and other mixed drinks that contain a small amount of flammable high-proof alcohol, which is ignited prior to consumption. The flames are decorative and do not change the flavor of the drinks notice-
ably. Flaming cocktails are more spectacular in dimly lit surroundings where the flames are more visible. Drinkers should be aware that the drinkware may remain quite hot for a while after the flames are
extinguished, which could result in burns.  List-of-Flaming Beverages

What is an Alcoholic Beverage?
An alcoholic beverage is a drink containing ethanol, commonly
known as alcohol. Alcoholic beverages are divided into three
general classes: beers, wines, and spirits. They are legally
consumed in most countries, and over 100 countries have laws
regulating their production, sale, and consumption. In particular,
such laws specify the minimum age at which a person may
legally buy or drink them. This minimum age varies between 16
and 25 years, depending upon the country and the type of drink.
Most nations set it at 18 years of age.

What is a Non-alcoholic Beverage?
A non-alcoholic beverage is a beverage that contains less than 0.5% alcohol by volume. Non-alcoholic versions of some alcoholic beverages, such as non-alcoholic beer ("near beer") and cocktails ("mocktails"), are widely available where alcoholic beverages are sold.

Soft Drink
The term "soft drink" specifies the absence of alcohol in contrast to "hard drink" and "drink". "Drink" is nominally neutral but often connotes alcoholic content.

Beverages such as soda pop, sparkling water, iced tea, lemonade, squash, and fruit punch are the most common soft drinks. Milk, hot chocolate, tea, coffee, milkshakes, and tap water are not considered to be soft drinks.

Water
Despite the fact that all beverages contain water, water itself is not classed as a beverage. The word beverage has traditionally been defined as not referring to water.
