This holiday was created to celebrate and give recognition to families that adopt children. This holiday is also intended to raise awareness of the many thousands of children awaiting adoption.

Origin of National Adoption Day:
National Adoption Day is sponsored and promoted by a variety of organizations, child care and child adoption agencies.
Our research did not find the creator, or the origin of this day.
This holiday is referred to as a "National" day. However, we did not find any congressional records or presidential proclamations for this day. We did however find reference that it is celebrated in all 50 states, the district of Columbia and Puerto Rico. This is still a holiday that is publicized to celebrate.
So have fun with it and celebrate it!

Adoption is the act of legally placing a child with a parent or parents other than those to whom they were born. An adoption order has the effect of severing parental responsibilities and rights of the original parent(s) and transferring those responsibilities and rights to the adoptive parent(s).
