When is Ice Cream Sandwich Day? August 14th!
In the United States, National Creamsicle Day is celebrated on 14 August annually.
How is this holiday celebrated?
Get that freezer stocked up with creamsicle ice cream because we have a National Holiday where we have an excuse to eat creamcicles all day long! Creamsicles are yummie to say the least. It use to be the only creamsicle flavors you could find was orange. Now-ah-days you can find chocolate with the traditional cream center of vanilla. Keep in mind, creamsicle is actually a brand but the word creamsicle has come to describe any ice cream snack (homemade or bought) with a vanilla cream center. Yep homemade creamsicles are popular on National Creamsicle Day.
Origin of this Holiday?
Our research did not find the creator, or the origin of this day. We did however find that this holiday has been celebrated for years. There is plenty of documentation to support that this holiday does indeed exist. - Was this this holiday created by a food organization? Our research couldn't find the answer to that question - This holiday is referred to as a "National" day. However, we did not find any congressional records or presidential proclamations for this day. Even though we didn't, this is still a holiday that is publicized to celebrate. So have fun with it and celebrate it!
What is a Creamsicle?
"Creamsicle is a brand name, also owned by Unilever, for a frozen dessert which resembles an ice pop, with a center composed of vanilla ice cream, and an exterior layer of flavored ice (all around a wooden stick). Popular flavors for Creamsicles include orange, blue raspberry, lime, grape and raspberry. Creamsicles are available in several varieties, including 100 Calorie Bars, Low Fat Bars, No Sugar Added Bars and Sugar Free Bars.
"Fudgsicle is another variation; it, too, is a registered trademark of Unilever. This frozen dessert is chocolate-flavored and creamy, with a flavor and texture somewhere between a water ice pop and ice cream. Fudgsicles are also available in 100 Calorie Bars, Low Fat Bars, No Sugar Added Bars and Sugar Free Bars."
"Slow Melt Pops are newer to the Popsicle product line. The addition of a small amount of gelatin helps the pops stay frozen longer than traditional ice pops.
