July, 4th week National Salad Week
Caesar Salad DaySalsa MonthVegetarian Day
second full week of May is National Herb Week.
National Egg Salad Week (see egg salad recipes)
Some salads are based on food items other than fresh vegetables:
In honor of National Salad Month -Welcome to our Salad Directory. Salads based on certain food item are popular all over the world and all throughout the year too. If I were to guess, I would say we eat some type of salad every week of the year. Now don't be thinking about those tossed Garden Salads now. No, I'm talking about those family favorite like "potato salad" that we always serve at barbecue cookouts. I'm talking about "egg salad" that is a must when we need to get rid of left over Easter eggs. I'm talking about "coleslaw" that we serve on top of  hot dogs for awsome chili dogs and slawdogs on Friday nights when we're tired and the family is hungary! I'm talking about those "taco salads" that we race through the drive through for at the fast food restaurants. And last but not least I'm talking about all those "tuna salads" we pack in our lunches each week. These are the types of salads I'm talking about :)

Other Salads that include ingredients other than fresh vegetables are:
Antipasto salad, Chicken salad, Cucumber salad, , Eggplant salad, Ham salad, Israeli salad,
Pea salad, Polish salad, Russian salad, Pretzel salad,  Sesame Noodle Salad, Watergate salad,
Shopska salad from Bulgaria, Somen salad from Japan, Tabouli,
Som tam or Green Papaya Salad from Thailand

Citrus Green Salads: These salads are light, refreshing and seem to taste on the tropical side. Many recipes are popular with walnuts, beats, orange slices, grapefruit, cranberries, and many times topped with a fruity vinaigrette dressing.

Bean Salads: mainly composed of cooked pole beans (green beans and/or yellow wax beans), cooked garbanzo beans, cooked kidney beans and sliced or diced fresh beetroot. The beans are marinated in an oil/vinegar vinaigrette, sometimes sweetened with sugar. Salads of this type are often used for picnics and outings, since they require little refrigeration.

Jell-O salad, or congealed salad is the common name for a molded salad made with flavored gelatin, fruit etc. Other ingredients may include cottage cheese, cream cheese, marshmallows, nuts or pretzels. Because of its many elements, the result has speckled bits of color against a colored gelatin background.

Fruit salad: (also called Macedonia) is a dish consisting of various kinds of fruit, served either in their own juices or a syrup. In different forms fruit salad can be served as an appetizer, a side-salad, or a dessert. When served as an appetizer or as a dessert, a fruit salad is also known as a fruit cocktail.

Pasta Salad:  Pasta salad is a dish prepared with one or more types of pasta, usually chilled, and most often tossed in a vinegar, oil or mayonnaise-based dressing. It can be served as an appetizer or a main course. As there is no one precise or agreed-upon recipe for the dish, ingredients vary widely by region, restaurant, seasonal availability.

Seafood Salad: Seafood Salad is a dish prepared with one or more types of seafood and can be served either as a type of seafood garden salad or as a seafood pasta salad. A very popular salad is the "Crab Louie.' that is made with Dungeness Crab. The photo showing is a shrimp salad.

Insalata Caprese: (salad in the style of Capri) is a simple salad from the Italian region of Campania, made of sliced fresh mozzarella, plum tomatoes and basil. It is seasoned with salt, black pepper, and olive oil. Some variations include adding chopped garlic, parsley, and various sauces. (Balsamic Vinegar, Italian Dressing, etc.)

Jello salad: or congealed salad is the common name for salad made with flavored gelatin, fruit and sometimes grated carrots or, more rarely, other vegetables. Other ingredients may include cottage cheese, cream cheese, marshmallows, nuts or pretzels. Cranberry is popular during the holidays-
