We have our own Holiday!
We Proclaimed the 28th
of every month a
Gone-ta-pott Day!
What does Gone-ta-pott mean anyway?

Gone-ta-pott or "gone to pot" is a "idiom."
If something has gone to pot, it has gone wrong and doesn't work any more. A day where nothing has gone right. A day full of ms-haps. A day where everything you tried to do ended up with no success. A day where one thing right after the other went ah-stray. A day when trying to meet a deadlines and everything got in the way. A day that should of been a day of success turned out to be a day turmoil.

  • Many times this idiom is pronounced Gone-ta-pott when a person is announcing how their day has gone. "My day has just gone-ta-pott!"

What is this Holiday for?
  • This holiday is for seeing the humor in a bad day!

This Holiday is set aside for people around the world to appreciate and get a good laugh out of a bad day or a bad week. It's time to get past the stress. This day is set aside so friends can come together over a few drinks, a pot of stew and get a big laugh over stories being told about who had the worse day for the month. Invite all your friends and family over to share in the laughter. We all love to hear a good story and we all jump to attention when someone says..... let me tell you what happened to...! So on this day everybody needs to tell their best gone-ta-pott stories so everyone can get a big laugh out of it.

Why was the 28th of each month picked?

Each month was picked because we have real
trying days in each and every month.

The 28th of the month was picked because
statistics tell us that the end of the month is when
we are all under the most stress and under the
most pressure during any given month.  Bills are
due at the end of the month, we are tired, things
have to be delivered here and picked up there
and it's only natural to start stressing over them
around the 28th. Monthly deadline that are due
are frantically realized on the 28th that time is
running out. The list goes on and on.

How Gone-ta-pott Day became a holiday
  by Pamela Svoboda
A few weeks before this website made it's appearance on the Internet; we were not having the best of luck and decided to go to the river for a break from life for a while. While sitting around a camp fire stewing over a pot of stew; we were also stewing and laughing over our worst day for the month.

A conversation started about how stressful the last of every month was and how sometimes you have to just see the humor in a bad day and laugh about it. The question was asked..... "Well what are you going to do now?" Sarcastically I said... " I think I'm going to design a website and call it Gone-ta-pott.com since that seems to be what I know the most about right now."

Laughter echoed across the slew - then we sit in silence watching the stew swinging and simmering over the fire. As I looked at the pot smoking and letting off steam it seeded to be mimicking life some how. It made me start to think. "I wonder if I really could build a website?"  "I wonder?"

Needless to say, a joke turned into reality. In March of 2004 www.gone-ta-pott.com made it's first appearance on the Internet. A directory based on the calendar of events. Gone-ta-pott Day made the list for weird, wild & wacky holidays.

We named it! - We claimed it! - We published it! - and we declared it for ours!

This is referred to as a "National" day but like most all weird holidays there are no congressional records or presidential proclamations for this fun holiday. Even though, this is still a holiday that is publicized to celebrate. So have fun with it and celebrate it!

How To Celebrate Gone-ta-pott Day:

  • We celebrate Gone-ta-pott Day by mimicking our memory of the day gone-ta-pott was thought up. By eating a traditional bowl of stew, soup, goulosh or chili. Something that goes in a pot that's easily shared amoung a circle of friends. (gone-ta-pott, a pot of stew - get it?) With a few drinks!
  • Invite your friends over for a crock-pot, pot luck. Have each of your friends bring a crock pop of their favorite one pot wonders. You can provide the drinks and bowls.
  • We have received emails from office workers telling us they celebrate by having a gone-ta-pott lunch in honor of meeting their deadlines at the end of the month. Signifies "the stress is over."
  • Blog about it -  I think it's far time we look on the bright side of life and see the humor in a day that's gone to pot. It's time to tell the tales and let everyone laugh about it. Each month we experience an off color day so why not blog about it and have a few laughs amoung friends. It's time to end the stress.
  • Cocktails all the way! You can't go wrong with a cocktail party in honor of Gone-ta-pott Day.
