Food and sexuality have been associated in various ways throughout history

Romantic Meals:
When I think of a romantic meal I think of a beautiful table setting with delicious food, either by fireside or by candle light. (also see Candle  Color Meanings) It's one of the first ways love is expressed in a relationship. A romantic meal is relaxing and when couples are relaxed they start to get to know each other better and start to build a bond and trust with one another. Romantic Meals can be as fancy as almond crusted fish with lemon sauce or as simple as a dagwood sandwich on beautiful crusted bread.

  • Courtship would not be complete without a romantic dinner.
  • It's traditional for a romantic dinner to take place at a restaurant with low light or candle light, especially on a Romantic Holiday like Valentines Day.  It's a real plus if the restaurant has a warm fireplace glowing in the background but those are hard to find. That's why many romantic dinners take place in homes that have a fireplace. After-all, we know candlelight and fireside meals are the #1 choice when your trying to get past first base with the one you love.  And by-the-way, did you know that everyone looks better in candle light and firelight? Yep they sure do!

Foods that  Fuel Sex Drive:
"Foods such as chocolate and oysters are said to be aphrodisiacs.
"An aphrodisiac is a substance that is used in the belief that it increases sexual desire. The name comes from Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of sensuality and love. Throughout history, many foods, drinks, and behaviors have had a reputation for making sex more attainable and/or pleasurable."

  • Chocolate: Romantic lore commonly identifies chocolate as an aphrodisiac. "The reputed aphrodisiac qualities of chocolate are most often associated with the simple sensual pleasure of its consumption.  Dark chocolate, with its high cocoa content, is a rich source of the flavonoids epicatechin and gallic acid, which are thought to possess cardioprotective properties. Chocolate also contains theobromine,- an alkaloid; which is very similar to caffeine. Last but not least, chocolate contains phenylethylamine, a chemical believed to produce the feeling of "being in love; it is quickly metabolized by monoamine oxidase-B and does not reach the brain in significant amounts. Chocolate is a mild stimulant to humans mainly due to the presence of theobromine."

  • Oysters as food: We've all heard the jokes about sex and oysters but diet professionals says its true. Oysters are rich in zinc and iodine. Zinc is a vital sexual nutriment and is essential for testosterone production in men and women. Even Casanova was said to share oysters to peak sexual appetites. "Oysters are sometimes cited as an aphrodisiac. It is disputed whether this is true. A team of American and Italian researchers analyzed bivalves and found they were rich in rare amino acids that trigger increased levels of sex hormones. Also oysters have a high zinc content, a mineral that aids in the production of testosterone. Alternatively, the oyster's erotic reputation may only be due to its soft, moist texture and appearance."

  • In some cultures animal testicles and other items are consumed to increase sexual potency. Shellfish including abalone, lobster, oysters, clams, scallops, shrimp and deep, cold-water fish like cod and halibut fuel the brain, the body and the sex drive."

  • Vitamin E: stimulates the production of sex hormones. "Particularly high levels of vitamin E can be found in the following foods: Asparagus, Avocado, Egg, Milk, Nuts, such as almonds or hazelnuts, Seeds, Spinach and other green leafy vegetables, Unheated vegetable oils, Wheat germ, Wholegrain foods."

Food Symbolism:
Food items also provide symbolism, such as the apple in the bible as "forbidden fruit "or the cherry with its associations related to virginity. Some food are symbolic or act as metaphors for body parts involved in sexual relations. Common examples include bananas, zuccini and cucumbers as phallic symbols. Melons have a similar use and are sometimes used as stand-ins for breasts, as in the Austin Powers movie where they are used to cover up a woman's bare chest.

  • Food Slang:
Food items are also used metaphorically in slang sexual terminology and poetry.

  • Foods Considered Sensual:
  • Some foods are considered sensual for their appearance, texture and taste. Whipped cream, melted chocolate, strawberries, and peanut butter are sometimes used for intimate titillation. Many cultures used honey as a sweet sexual treat as well. Honey is sticky and therefore requires more licking to get it all off the skin. source

Greek & Roman Cultures
History tells us that Greek and Roman cultures enjoyed a parade of ripe fruits and exotic dishes before engaging in sensual pleasures. In fact the way it was eaten was even seductive as well. Many facts in our History tell us of how partners would feed very juicy fruit to each other I'm sure in hopes of it dripping and making a liquid mess that could be licked off the body so all parties involved could be aroused by it.

When a person takes a bite of a really juicy piece of fruit it's very easy for the juice to run down the chin of the person and drip on their chest. We know that fruit can be very sexual that's one reason why it was favored. Another reason would be because fruit is light on the stomach and keeps your energy levels up. A heavy snack would just fill you up and make you want to sleep.  Even the act of feeding someone was arousing then and now. Just think about it. How many times have you taken a bite from someone and felt that tingling sensation when their fingers touched your lips?  Yep!

Strawberries & Cream
You just can't go wrong with strawberries and cream! Strawberries and
cream has to be the most popular choice of food for a romantic pic-nic lunch.
Strawberries are beautiful, sweet, juicy and the color of love which is RED.
Strawberries & raspberries are often described as "sexual fruits, " these berries
are loaded with vitamins necessary for circulation and stimulation.

The Quickest Way to a mans Heart
This has been a famous saying for years and most men and women swear that it's true.  Once upon a time, In the days when the men were the one's to work and the women were the one's to stay home, take care of the kids and do all the cooking; it was a real plus to have the talent of cooking and preparing foods such as canning. In fact back in the old days when restaurants didn't exist, it was very common for a man to have "excellent cook" on the top of his list when he was picking out a wife to marry.  Men love to be able to come home to a warm and comforting meal after a hard day of work. They may not ever admit it but studies show that it really is a comfort to walk in the door and smell a wonderful supper cooking on the stove. Food really does relax a person and make all the troubles of the day go away for men and women both.

Our Diet & Lovemaking
They say that nutritious foods can stir libido and revive sexual functions. Is it true? Well research say's it is. Nutrition plays a vital role in lovemaking. The quality of our diet has a great deal to do with the quality of our sex that's why healthy people have more healthy sex.
