In honor of all the National Drink Holidays in our calendar,
this page is dedicated to Tropical Drinks.

When is National Pina Colada Day?
July 10 is always National Pina Colada Day.
________________________________________

What is this Holiday for?
This holiday is for enjoying the delicious flavors of the tropical drink called "Pina Colada."  So go out and get yourself some pineapple juice and coconut cream and blend up yourself a nice cool and refreshing drink.
_______________________________________________

Origin of this Holiday?
Our research did not find the creator, or the origin of this day.
This holiday is referred to as a "National" day.  However, we did not find any congressional records or presidential proclamations for this day. Even though we didn't, this is still a holiday that is publicized to celebrate. So have fun with it and celebrate it!

What is a Pina Colada?
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The piña colada (Spanish, strained pineapple: piña, pineapple + colada, strained) is a sweet, rum-based cocktail made with light rum, coconut cream, and pineapple juice, usually served either blended or shaken with ice. It may be garnished with a pineapple wedge or a maraschino cherry. The piña colada is known as the official beverage of Puerto Rico.

Pina Colada Drink Recipe
8 fluid ounces Pineapple juice (preferably, of course, pineapple chunks from a fresh pineapple)
8 fluid ounces Coconut cream (available canned under several brand names. The best known is Coco Lopez, Real Cream of Coconut. Don't leave this out mannnn!
6 ounces Rum
3 to 4 cups of Ice
Cherries
Slices of pineapple, orange or lime
In a blender, grind ice while gradually adding the pineapple, coconut cream and rum. Alternatively, use shaved ice. The ice should be thick enough to hold a cherry on top without sinking in. Serve in a tall glass with a straw. Garnish with one cherry and a slice of fruit. Insert a paper umbrella for that additional tropical, exotic touch.

Omit the rum for a delicious non-alcoholic Piña Colada.
Now poke a colorful Paper umbrella in it and sit back and be cooooool.

Pina Colada Fun Facts
One of the quatricentennial houses along Calle Fortaleza, Old San Juan, Puerto Rico's main street, bears a sign that claims that Piña Colada was invented there by Don Ramon Portas Mingot in 1963.

Piña Colada is now known around the world as a symbol of the Tropics. The name evokes thoughts of palm trees, sandy beaches, hula dances, lelolais, and all sorts of exotic, romantic happenings.
